Mixed Media
Works combining multiple materials, techniques and processes, allowing drawing, paint, collage, texture and layered imagery to interact.

Mixed Media

01
Wings of a Collection – I
Created for the Corners exhibition, which challenged artists to illustrate something collected in the corners of our homes, without using corners in the artwork itself. I chose postage stamps, using them to create a circular collage of a bird featured on a stamp. The piece brings together collecting, nostalgia and the natural world.

02
Wings of a Collection – II
The companion artwork to Wings of a Collection – I, created for the Corners exhibition. Using postage stamps as collage material, I recreated another bird featured on a stamp. The circular format removes traditional corners while celebrating the small, often overlooked objects we collect and keep.

03
Three Become One
An examination piece created during my studies at Open Window, using gouache, fineliners and markers. The assignment required us to combine three separate images into a collage and then reinterpret the composition as a finished artwork. An exploration of colour, shape and the unexpected relationships between unrelated images.

04
Unexpected Discovery
An experimental mixed-media artwork created during my studies at Inscape. Initially considered an unsuccessful attempt, this piece eventually became my favourite of the two. Its spontaneous composition, layered textures and unexpected visual effects reminded me that an experiment doesn't have to go according to plan to produce something worthwhile.

05
Patterns in Motion
A mixed-media exercise completed during my studies at Inscape. This second interpretation explores overlapping circular forms, decorative patterns and contrasting colours. Although originally considered the more successful version, my appreciation for the first experiment grew over time.

06
Laundry Day – Chaos
One of two examination pieces created during my studies at Open Window, based on the themes of night and day and chaos and order. This piece represents chaos through a lively, layered composition filled with movement and scattered activity. My own profile appears blowing bubbles with children, while a repeated naked female figure hangs up washing, moving through the composition from left to right, top to bottom, and back upward again. The result is playful, restless and intentionally busy.

07
Laundry Day – Order
The second of two Open Window examination pieces exploring the contrast between chaos and order. This work interprets order through the theme of doing laundry, with a robot hanging washing in a carefully structured scene. Construction workers appear to be identifying the positions of the pegs, while small blue bubbles and multiple items of washing add detail and visual interest. Even within the orderly composition, playful touches remain, including the small bra in the foreground.
